Traralgon Police Station is set to undergo a major renovation and expansion in order to cope with increased police numbers and potential future growth.
From tomorrow, officers will move to a temporary building in the station’s car park on Kay Street, with the senior sergeant and administrative staff to work from Morwell.
Latrobe Inspector Dean Thomas moved to reassure the community the temporary arrangement would not result in a reduced service to Traralgon.
“We will have a police presence at the temporary accommodation 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Insp Thomas said.
“Members of the Traralgon community can still attend to report crime or to make enquiries.
“Patrols will remain the same.”
The Traralgon station was built in 1989 and Insp Thomas said the renovation was expected to be completed in November.
“We have had an increase (in police numbers) in the Latrobe Valley as part of the commitment of the State Government and we’re hoping for further increases into the future.”
The Traralgon Police Station number will remain 5174 0900 during the renovation.
