“SIMPLIFIED opportunities” for council to localise its standard parking arrangements could be implemented following an announcement from the State Government.
State Planning Minister Matthew Guy announced reforms to car parking provisions in Victoria, an announcement welcomed by Latrobe Valley residents currently facing the brunt of parking shortages.
Latrobe City Council recently established a parking committee, aimed at getting further insight into parking woes currently plaguing Latrobe Valley.
Residents have previously complained of parking shortages in central business district areas, leading to council to change its one hour parking limits to two hours last year.
Part of the government’s reforms include “simplified opportunities for councils to localise the standard car parking requirements”.
Express Facebook reader Kik Edgell called for more “all day parking” adding her colleagues in Buckley Street, Morwell constantly struggled to find parking.
Another reader, Deidre Morely urged council to look into parking behind the Kay Street entertainment complex in Traralgon, adding staff from a neighbouring school “are taking up retailers’ car spots at the car park”.
“I have to move my car during working hours. There is simply not enough all day parking for business owners and their employees. Very frustrating,” Ms Morely said.
A Latrobe City spokesperson said council was still looking into the details of the government’s announcement and would release more information on how the reforms would affect Latrobe City at a later date.
