A NEWBOROUGH man was found guilty of one count of murder and one count of manslaughter over the double stabbing murder of two Moe men last year.
According to media reports, 38 year-old Richard Stephen Devries was found guilty on Thursday by a Melbourne jury of killing Evan Hugh Rudd and Roy Theodore Poole on 19 February 2011.
The case was heard in the Supreme Court in Melbourne after it was adjourned from the Latrobe Valley Court Complex in Morwell in April.
Devries had pleaded not guilty to the charges and claimed to have acted in self-defence.
The court heard, Devries had stabbed the men following a fight after he discovered he was unable to get out of the driveway of an apartment complex in High Street, Moe due to Mr Poole’s vehicle blocking him in.
Although the car was subsequently moved so Devries could leave the premises, the jury heard he became involved in a fight with Mr Poole and Mr Rudd during which he stabbed them with a knife before fleeing.
Mr Poole died at the scene while Mr Rudd died later at Latrobe Regional Hospital.
It was reported Justice Lex Lasry will sentence him at a later date.
