The Walhalla Goldfields Railway is set to receive an investment hoped to attract more visitors to the historic gold mining community.
Last week State Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing announced $50,000 for the railway to improve accessible toilet facilities at the station and seal the car park, access road and platform.
The Walhalla Goldfields Railway departs from the Walhalla Historic Township, following Stringers Creek where it joins the Thomson River and crosses the Thomson River Bridge.
Walhalla Goldfields Railway president Michael Leaney said the sealed platform and car park as well as disabled toilet would improve public safety, equal access and presentation of the busy Walhalla railway attraction.
Mr Leaney said the volunteer-operated Walhalla Goldfields Railway was one of the most popular heritage rail lines in the state.
“The newly-upgraded facilities will also provide a greatly enhanced experience for all visitors with accessibility needs,” Mr Leaney said.
The Walhalla Goldfields Railway also made a $5000 contribution to the development.
