AGL Energy is warning the public an AGL-branded email scam containing malicious malware is continuing to be circulated.
In a statement the brown coal power operator said the scam email presents as an e-Account and asks readers to click on a link.
“It is important that anyone receiving a suspicious email should delete it immediately or, if opened, not click on any links within the email,” AGL Energy said.
The scam email is indiscriminate and targeting both AGL customers and non-AGL customers.
AGL advises recipients of any suspicious emails to run antivirus software and block the sender.
The email has been reported to Scamwatch, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Australian Federal Police.
Anyone with further concerns relating to the scam should phone Scamwatch on 1300 795 995, visit www.scamwatch.gov.au or phone AGL on 131 245.
