Morwell Cricket Club’s women’s representative side is on the hunt for new players as it prepares for the beginning of this year’s Gippsland Cricket League season.
The reigning premiers recently resumed training at Morwell’s Keegan Street Reserve and coach Barry Mathieson said the club was eager to add new players of all ages and abilities.
“We’re pretty solid. We’ve got a good core base of 14 players who are pretty regular,” Mathieson said.

In last season’s grand final Morwell defeated Sale-Maffra by 21 runs after electing to bat first.

Mathieson said this allowed the women’s team to draw on the experience of the club’s men’s sides.
“That’s the best part of it – we have our own net and the guys will pop in and offer advice,” he said.

The infrequent playing schedule also meant the club needed a squad of about 18 players, Mathieson said.
Training for the Morwell Cricket Club women’s team begins at 4.45pm on Thursdays at Keegan Street Reserve.
