For the first time since 1973 all matches in the Latrobe Valley Soccer League were played on a Saturday.
An 80th-minute goal by leading goalscorer Jesse Kennedy gave Falcons 2000 a 1-0 victory over Traralgon City.
Pressure from both sides meant early opportunities were wasted and turnovers were high.
Falcons looked the better of the two sides and put the Roosters under constant pressure.
Corey O’Shea and Jake Budija were holding their own for City and Liam Johnson was also busy.
Falcons got the break at 80 minutes when a cross from Kevin Carcella to Jamie Pistrin through was passed to Jesse Kennedy who tapped it in from close range.
Newborough/Yallourn v East Gippsland
Newborough/Yallourn made the long journey to Bairnsdale and collected the three points in a whitewash, 5-0.
The win put Newborough/Yallourn on top of the ladder and the side is yet to concede a goal.
Newborough/Yallourn struggled early but eventually broke through the East Gippsland defence to register their first goal at 37 minutes.
After the break the machine cranked up and they were rewarded with four more goals to complete the rout.
Moe v Sale
Moe broke through for their first win of the season with a decisive 3-2 victory over Sale.
Neither team could make an impact on the scoreboard in the early part of the match.
Moe eventually broke through on the half hour with a goal and the score stood at 1-0 at the break.
After the interval both teams kicked into gear and scored two goals each.
Moe doubled their score at 53 minutes before Sale hit back to make it 2-1.
Moe scored again at 71 minutes but Sale forced the error and put their second goal in at 80 minutes.
Olympians v Fortuna
A hat-trick to Nelson Tombra and a brace to Kuku Mahmoud led the way for the new-look Fortuna in a memorable win over Olympians.
Facing losses to Olympians in their last three league clashes, the Lions upstaged their fancied opponents and have issued a challenge to other clubs.
Fortuna scored at five minutes and Olympians hit back 20 minutes later through Jordie Campbell.
Fortuna got the break and a good passage resulted in their second score at 35 minutes through Mahmoud to lead them into the break with a 2-1 lead.
The next three goals for Fortuna were scored at 55, 65 and 85 minutes.
Fortuna remain unbeaten after three matches while Olympians are struggling after losing their last two matches.
Monash v Churchill
Monash continued on with another impressive display and defeated Churchill 3-0 to notch their second win of the season.
Churchill are yet to play to their potential and look set to break through in the coming weeks.
Round four preview
Two Saturday night matches will feature in round four action when Olympians host Churchill from 6pm and Fortuna clash with Falcons at 7pm.
On Sunday in other matches Newborough/Yallourn host Traralgon City, Sale are home to Trafalgar and Monash and Moe clash in the local derby.
Olympians v Churchill
Olympians host Churchill from 6pm in the first of two Saturday night feature matches this weekend.
Olympians managed a win in round one but losses to Monash and Fortuna have dented their progress.
Churchill have lost both their opening matches and will be keen to make amends this weekend.
Fortuna v Falcons
Fortuna and Falcons will do battle in another Saturday night clash when they vie for the Inter-Australia Cup from 7pm.
Fortuna have lost the last five to Falcons in league matches and will look to make up for the poor record.
Falcons pair Jesse Kennedy and Joey Auciello both play their 200th game and have been stalwarts of the club.
Fortuna put Olympians to the sword last week while Falcons struggled against Traralgon City.
Both teams have exciting strikers which could result in a high scoring match.
Falcons keeper Simon Charles and Fortuna keeper Andrew will need to be at their best on Saturday night.
Newborough/Yallourn v Traralgon City
Traralgon City play away for the third successive week with a draw and a loss to their name and come up against top team Newborough/Yallourn this weekend.
Newborough/Yallourn have won their last five encounters against City.
Newborough/Yallourn have recruited well and their off-season work is paying off.
Sale v Trafalgar
Sale will be back at home against Trafalgar this weekend and will be keen to collect the point.
Sale go into the match with some confidence on the back of some impressive form but stumbled against Moe and went down 2-3.
Trafalgar defeated Sale in their last match and are a chance to break the ice this season.
Monash v Moe
Monash haven’t beaten Moe since 2015 and even the last two matches resulted in draws.
Monash have enjoyed a good season to date with two wins while Moe broke through for their first win over Sale last week.
