Leongatha shoots for win

NETBALL

GIPPSLAND LEAGUE

After consecutive big losses, Leongatha will be looking to return to their round one form this weekend when they face Maffra in A grade netball action in the Gippsland League on Saturday from 2.15pm.

The Parrots enjoyed a tight win over Wonthaggi in round one but have failed to take home the points since – falling to defending premiers Traralgon in round two by 48 goals and Morwell in round three by 19 goals.

Maffra faltered in round two against Drouin but come into this weekend’s clash on the back of a win over Wonthaggi.

Moe v Bairnsdale

A young Moe side has emerged as the surprise package of season 2018 and will host Bairnsdale at Moe Recreation Reserve on Saturday from 2.15pm.

The Lions’ only hiccup to date came in round one against 2017 runners up Drouin, and the one-goal loss would have bolstered the hopes of coach Peter Moody who believes his troop has what it takes to go all the way.

Bairnsdale are yet to record a win in 2018 and are languishing in ninth spot on the ladder while Moe are in fourth spot with two wins.

Morwell v Sale

Morwell is one of two sides to have won all three games so far this season and will fancy their chances when they host Sale in round four action on Saturday from 2.15pm.

The Tigers are in second spot, just behind defending premiers Traralgon, while Sale are propping up the rest of the competition at the other end of the ladder.

Morwell made light work of Warragul in the season-opener, storming home to record a 27-goal win, and backing it up in round two with a tight win over Bairnsdale.

They travelled well in round three and disposed of Leongatha to the tune of 19 goals.

The Tigers will take plenty of confidence into round four after their last meeting with Sale in round 13 ended with a landslide win, 80-33.

Wonthaggi v Traralgon

Wonthaggi is faced with the toughest ask in Gippsland League A grade netball this weekend in defending premiers Traralgon.

Traralgon is on track to claim back-to-back flags in the A grade and sits atop the Gippsland League ladder after three wins from as many games to kick off season 2018.

Wonthaggi is one of three sides yet to get off the mark and doesn’t look set to break the losing run this weekend against Traralgon.

Drouin v Warragul

Drouin will host Warragul this weekend in round four action at Drouin Recreation Reserve on Saturday from 2.15pm.

The Hawks are inside the top five with two wins from two games and Warragul is just outside in sixth position with one win.

If round 16 last season is anything to go by, Drouin will have a relatively easy run this weekend.

The Hawks won that game by 22 goals and have shown plenty of form reminiscent of their 2017 run to the grand final.
