When Moe stylist Harmonie Smith read some alarming figures online about the devastation of the fashion industry on the environment it affirmed her passion for pre-loved clothing.
Plus, she had such high volumes of high-quality, second-hand garments from her work as a stylist, her clients started urging her to book a market stall until the idea stuck and she called on friend Kelly Treyvaud to help her with the task.
Ms Smith promised herself if she found 20 stallholders her market would go ahead.
“We got 53 and can’t fit anymore. It’s going to be huge,” Ms Smith said.
All the stallholders passed Ms Smith’s selection criteria for purely high quality women’s wear and accessories.
“I’ve got a couple of stalls that have got a lot of vintage stuff and rockabilly [clothing]. I literally think there’s something there for everyone,” Ms Smith said.
The market will raise money for Gippsland Centre for Sexual Assault, Ms Smith chose the organisation for its support and counselling of people who have experienced sexual assault and their family members.
She said the global #MeToo movement stirred her interest in supporting a largely women-oriented cause which stood up for equality.
The market will have sizes six to 24, with brands ranging from everyday fashion to designer in clothing, shoes, accessories, fascinators and even a few wedding dresses.
Take 2 Market – Ladies Pre-loved Fashion will be at Turfside Function Centre, Moe on Sunday, May 6, 10am-3pm.
