INTERLEAGUE
The Gippsland League made it a clean sweep at the 2018 AFL Victoria Community Championships at the weekend, defeating Murray Football Netball League in all three matches at Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe.
Gippsland’s senior football side was unrelenting in its treatment of the Murray side and stacked on eight goals in the third term to set up a 62-point victory.
Skipper Cade Maskell and his Leongatha teammate Chris Dunne combined to bag six goals for Gippsland while vice-captain Bob McCallum, Ryan Hearn and James Blaser snagged two each.
Drouin’s Eddie Morris was awarded best on ground for his standout performance in the midfield and Alex Hicks was best on for Murray.
The open netballers were similarly dominant and a Courtney Garth-led Gippsland outfit made light work of Murray to canter to a win, 65-31.
The under-18 football was a close contest and a resurgent second-half from Gippsland helped set up a six-point win.
Cam Olden was judged best on for the Gippsland League in the victory and was well served by Jordan Hill, Bailey Quaife and Josh Galea.
In other Community Championship results, the Eastern Football League took out the top gong as the state’s top-ranked competition after putting away Geelong Football League by 43 points in the headlining match on Saturday night.
The win marks the first time in history the EFL has clinched the number one spot, putting an end to Geelong’s six-year stranglehold on the competition.
