The message behind the Biggest Morning Tea held at Chairo Christian School’s Traralgon campus on Wednesday was deeply personal for some students and their families.
School leadership team member, Biggest Morning Tea organiser and Chairo student Tobi said that a number of families in the school had been personally affected by cancer which was why the leadership team wanted to invite the broader school community instead of just the students.
“We have some families in our school who have experienced cancer in one way or another,” she said.
“We wanted to show that we care and to raise awareness.”
Ironically, the Biggest Morning Tea was held in the afternoon, which allowed families to attend when they picked students up from school.
Attendees were asked to contribute a gold coin donation and bring a plate of food to share and there were also a number of donated items for sale at the event.
Tobi said there wasn’t a specific fundraising goal “as long as it is influencing other people’s lives”.
Principal Keryn de Bruyn said the event was a good thing for leaders to be involved in to “reach out and impact other people”.
“We want to have a focus on what we are doing for others,” she said.
