The Harriers men’s and women’s teams competed in round four of the Athletics Victoria cross country championships in Bundoora on Saturday, June 16 which doubled as the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships and the selection trial for the Australian Cross Country Championships.
Ten Harriers wore the Big T singlet around the gruelling 10-kilometre course.
Kate Sly again finished in the top 50 in 40 minutes 57 seconds, bettering her time from last year by four minutes, following her third placing at the recent Traralgon Running Festival 10-kilometre event.
Amanda Fontaine and Kay Frost finished close together ahead of teammate Anna Cardillo who made her return to serious racing.
In the men’s division Pete Cutler, third in the Traralgon Marathon, ran a scorching 36.24 with Allambee nurseryman Ian Cornthwaite (40.06) fourth in his age group.
Darrel Cross and Tony Arrowsmith were high finishers in their age group followed by Ian Twite and Bob Bickett.
At last Thursday’s run from Agnes Brereton Park first home on handicap was Tania Whitehead, ahead of veteran Michael Walker and Kris Vallak.
The quickest women were Karen Graham (21.32), Liz Kenny (24.34) and Whitehead (24.48).
Fastest men were Glenn Graham (19.19), Biasi Silvestro (19.59) and Tony Arrowsmith (21.02).
This Thursday’s run is a six-kilometre scratch race starting at 5.50 pm from the northern Down’s Reserve, near the Grubb Avenue-Cross’s Road roundabout.
Junior and intermediate events will also be held.
