Yinnar finely tuned for Yarragon

FOOTBALL

MID GIPPSLAND

Yinnar are slowly working themselves into a finely-tuned machine and will test themselves against Yarragon this weekend.

The Magpies started the season with a fairly thin list to choose from with injuries and unavailability a constant problem since that time.

This week they welcome an improving Yarragon side which finally claimed a scalp against highly-rated Thorpdale.

The Panthers have been competitive in a majority of their games this season and have the respect of every side in the competition.

Yinnar will be another level for Yarragon this weekend, and as good as they were last week, the Panthers will need to be even better to get close to a victory.

Morwell East v Thorpdale.

A win by Morwell East will put them within four points of Thorpdale on the MGFL ladder and with three matches remaining it also means they are a chance of claiming fifth spot.

From afar it appears Thorpdale’s long list of injuries has started to take its toll on the side.

The Blues’ loss to Yarragon last week will have Morwell East up and about and believing they can claim a win against a finals contender.

Hill End v Mirboo North

As the season has progressed Mirboo North have quietly gone about their business, slowly working themselves into the top five and starting to show the sort of form that may earn them a top-three prospect.

The likelihood of that happening isn’t known, but what is now becoming clear is they could well go back-to-back.

Last week they welcomed Jason Winderlich to an already impressive line-up and this week Joel Reynolds may be in the mix.

If these two quality players can fit into the side we are more than likely to see the Tigers cause some headaches for all around them come August and September.

Newborough v Boolarra

Every week the MGFL community have willed Boolarra to win their first game in about 18 months but a trip to Newborough to face the Dogs this weekend is a tough ask.

As much as it appears to have been a disappointing year for Boolarra, it’s the work that is being put in behind the scenes that will either make or break it for the Demons.

Newborough have shown some glimpses of what they are capable of in recent weeks and notched a win against Yinnar.

YYN v Trafalgar

This match-up is the game of the round, pure and simple.

Trafalgar will make their way to Yallourn-Yallourn North knowing they will have to do their very best to get over the top of the Bombers.

The Bloods’ only loss for this season has been to this week’s opponents and though scores were locked at half-time last time they met, YYN blew Trafalgar away.

What the Bloods might be ready for is the condition of the Bombers’ home ground – the recent rain has made it a less-than-attractive proposition for both clubs.

To win this week, one side is going to have to get down and dirty.
