AGL pride in sponsorship

Loy Yang owner AGL sets aside about $600,000 a year to put towards a range of Latrobe Valley community groups and projects under its sponsorship program.

The disclosure comes as Loy Yang B owner Alinta Energy said last month it would direct more of its community sponsorship into the hip pocket of the region – compared to the station’s previous owner ENGIE.

Alinta said it would put about $200,000 each year into its community sponsorships, compared to Hazelwood owner ENGIE who puts in slightly more at $250,000.

AGL Loy Yang general manager Steve Rieniets said the projects were chosen using criteria which set out to have lasting benefits for the region.

“This year we signed a $30,000 sponsorship deal with the North Gippsland Football and Netball League and worked in partnership to support and deliver the Gippsland Pride Cup,” Mr Rieniets said.

“We have sponsored the AGL Loy Yang Traralgon Tennis International for 25 years, investing around $375,000 as well as making numerous in-kind donations.

“Earlier this year we re-launched our Smith Family partnership by committing $26,000 a year for three years to support 45 local students through the Learning for Life program.”

Mr Rieniets said the company also supported the Bass Coast Landcare Network to deliver the Managing Sustainable Farms Using STEM program with a $25,000 grant annually.

“The program is designed to introduce students in years 7 to 10 to sustainable land management and the ways that science, technology, engineering and maths are used to run a profitable farming enterprise,” Mr Rieniets said.

“In addition, we have long-running partnerships with the Latrobe Theatre Company, City of Traralgon Band, Traralgon junior cricket and football league, and many other smaller community groups.”
