A header in the 90th minute by Ethan Lawrence helped Monash to a share of the points with league leaders Falcons 2000.
Falcons got into their stride early but were missing two of their top defenders in Andrew Carbone and Joey Auciello but Isaac Abas and Nando Lazaris were fantastic replacements.
The birds hit the scoreboard at 15 minutes when Sam Amaira beat the keeper. The big moment came for Monash when they scored at 90 minutes to salvage a 1-1 draw and give them third spot on the ladder.
Newborough/Yallourn v Sale
In an unexpected result, Newborough/Yallourn blasted Sale 7-2 for their highest score against the Swans since 2007.
NYU scored goals freely in the first half and it only took seven minutes for Alex Van Vliet to score.
Hayden Tanti got in on the act with a hat-trick of goals in the 15th, 18th and 30th minutes. Mark Fairbrother chipped one in at 23 minutes and Shayne Pavich continued the rout at 33 minutes, and by half-time it was a 6-0 blowout.
Sale regrouped after the break and started to fight back and goals from Josh Ryan at 69 minutes and McCauley Lawrenson at 83.
NYU finished on a high note with Marc McCallum scoring at 90 minutes.
Olympians v Traralgon City
Olympians rose to the occasion in round 19 and took a 2-1 win over Traralgon City.
The home side scored their first goal at 17 minutes from Alradi Ali and went into the break 1-0 up.
Tempers flared in the second half when three players were booked with yellow cards after Traralgon City equalised at 73 minutes from Jake Budija.
Olympians steadied in the next four minutes to build up opportunities to score and at 77 minutes Ali scored his second to seal the win.
Trafalgar v Moe
With 10 players Trafalgar had their third victory over Moe, 3-1.
It only took eight minutes before Josh Paredes broke the deadlock for Trafalgar.
Nathan Paredes made it 2-0 at 33 minutes as Trafalgar started to take control but Moe came back a few minutes later when Noah Kane slipped one past the keeper.
Yellow and red cards at 40 minutes put Trafalgar at a disadvantage but they fought on and were rewarded with another goal from Josh Paredes to go to the break 3-1.
The score didn’t change after half-time as Trafalgar pushed back their defenders to hold onto their lead.
East Gippsland v Churchill
East Gippsland took out their second match for the season against Churchill, 3-2.
Churchill got through at 24 minutes from Jarryd Johnson but East were rewarded with a goal after excellent mid field play from Ben Gillard and went to the break 2-1 leaders.
A further goal from Zeb McLeod at 55 gave them a 3-1 lead but Churchill refused to lie down and replied at 70 minutes from Peter Hyland but it was too little too late.
LVSL women
Traralgon City almost secured the League Championship with a massive 8-0 win over Olympians.
City have a five point advantage over Trafalgar and a six point gap over Fortuna who have a game in hand.
It’s going to be a big three-way tussle for the top position with Traralgon looking to have the advantage.
NYU had a good 2-0 win over Sale, Monash kept their chances alive with a 3-1 win over Falcons and East Gippsland stayed in the top six with a 3-2 victory over Churchill.
Pegasus women south league three south
Pegasus continued their good form with a 4-1 win over Caulfield Cobras. Pegasus led at half time 2-0 and increased to 4-1 by the finish with a strong second half.
Chloe Rodda scored another hat trick bringing her tally to 16 for the season. Ayen Anyieth scored Pegasus’s other goal. Fourth-placed Pegasus are home to seventh Monash University Seconds on Sunday.
State league four south
Pegasus in 11th place went down to Old Mentonians 3-1 but this Sunday have a chance of a victory when they play away to 12th placed Elwood City
Round 20 preview
In a night clash at Traralgon, Falcons face archrivals Olympians this weekend. Olympians are coming off a good derby win over Traralgon City last week while Falcons managed a 1-1 draw against a 10-man Monash.
Fortuna v Trafalgar
Fortuna will be coming off the bye while Trafalgar can bask in the glory of beating Moe, a final six contender.
Fortuna sit two points outside the six and wins leading up to the finals are vital but Trafalgar play well against Fortuna.
Churchill v Traralgon City
Traralgon City sit five points shy of sixth position and will find it an uphill battle to make finals. Traralgon City were 2-1 winners first time round and on form could have another win.
Monash v Newborough/Yallourn
The Newborough derby will be the match of the round when Monash are again pitted against a top team in NYU.
Moe v East Gippsland
Moe are just hanging on to sixth place and face East Gippsland this weekend.
