Change to council meeting time

NEW councillors took to Latrobe City Council chambers with intent to “refresh” and bring change, starting with the council meeting time.

The disappointing 73 per cent of enrolled voters participating in the local government election spurred council to be proactive with boosting community engagement.

As of 3 December, the 7pm council meeting will now be held from 5.30pm, which Latrobe City councillor Peter Gibbons said aimed to generate more community interest with council operations.

“We need to have some change,” Cr Gibbons said.

“I am not exagerating the point, council needs to look ways to get the community more involved.

“It might be very little (community attendance) at the start, but it might grow and I hope it does.”
