TRARALGON export Tim Membrey played a starring role as St Kilda defeated Richmond by 33 points at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
The Saints booted seven of the game’s last eight goals to record a dominant 18.9 (117)
to 13.6 (84) success.
One of the cornerstones was the output of St Kilda’s talls.
Membrey booted three goals in a polished 15-possession performance (nine kicks, six
handballs).
He worked well with Max King, who slotted four majors and Rowan Marshall (two goals)
as the Saints demonstrated why they are a definite finals contender in season 2022.
One side that looks highly unlikely to be there come the post-season is Port Adelaide,
who slumped to a 0-3 record with a heart-breaking loss to Adelaide in Friday night’s
showdown.
The Power led by two points when Jordan Dawson stepped up to have a shot after the
final siren.
Dawson kicked truly to deliver a famous 15.6 (96) to 13.14 (92) success for the Crows.
Moe and Newborough product Sam Skinner was on the sidelines when Dawson kicked
truly after being forced off with an ankle injury.
Skinner had gathered eight possessions in his second appearance for the Power before
the injury blow, which saw him subbed out of the game in the third quarter.
Another Latrobe Valley footballer to feature in a thriller was Morwell’s Changkuoth Jiath.
Jiath gathered a team-high 27 possessions in Hawthorn’s one-point loss to Carlton at the
MCG on Sunday.
The Hawks trailed by 34 points at the first change and five goals at the main break, but
rallied through the third and fourth terms to give the Blues a major fright.
Carlton won the match 11.8 (74) to 11.7 (73).
Jiath’s performance earned rave reviews, named as Hawthorn’s best on AFL.com.au.
Fellow Morwell footballer Ben Ainsworth featured as Gold Coast lost to Greater
Western Sydney by 26 points on Saturday.
Ainsworth gathered 15 possessions (eight kicks, seven handballs), took four marks and laid three tackles.
Fellow Gippsland footballer Sam Flanders was dropped from the Gold Coast side after limited impact the previous week.
