Latrobe Valley residents with blankets to spare are being urged to donate them to the Salvations Army’s blanket appeal to help keep those less fortunate warm this winter.
After the response from last year’s appeal fell short, Traralgon Salvation Army minister Graeme Bright and volunteers have renewed the call for good-quality blankets.
Mr Bright said donations could be made to Traralgon Dry Cleaners and the blankets would be distributed to Salvation Army welfare clients across the Valley.
“We are asking people to drop in their blankets at Traralgon Dry Cleaners, who will clean and fold them for us,” Mr Bright said.
“Last year we got a small response, but we need a bigger response this year because we ran out of blankets about three weeks ago and needed to source them from other areas.”
Mr Bright said the demand had grown with a large increase in the area’s welfare requirements.
He said blankets could include doonas and crocheted or homemade blankets, adding good-quality was a must, with torn or stained blankets unacceptable.
