MOE Newborough Dodgers travelled to Churchill confident of continuing its recent run of dominance against the Braves in round 14 of GDF SUEZ Loy Yang B Latrobe Valley A grade baseball at the weekend.
The lead changed several times in a tight contest which saw both teams resolute in defence and aggressive in the batter’s box.
Each side rotated through three pitchers for the day and all six worked hard to secure outs when runners were threatening to score.
Unable to be separated, the game went into overtime where the Dodgers were cruelly beaten by the clock.
The allotted match time expired and the result reverted to the last complete innings with Churchill taking the win 8-7.
Ash Poxon, Jason Smith and Jayke Bloomfield were dogged for the Dodgers while Mat Hardie, Brad Warton and Brad Jones were best for Churchill.
Traralgon played Sale in the other A grade fixture where Redsox pitcher Brad Pratt manned the mound magnificently.
Pratt allowed just one hit before Luke Hornstra came in to shut the game down.
Sale’s Will Hector took to the mound to slow the Redsox batters after the starting rotation all managed hits in the first inning.
Brad Taylor was the only hitter for Sale as the Redsox proved too strong for the Rangers taking the win 11-0. Pratt was outstanding all day and received support from Owen Godenzi and Will Hector.
