Council report revealed

On Monday night Latrobe City Council voted to release a previously kept-secret report into its handling of a major Moe infrastructure project.

The report detailed the results of an audit conducted by the Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate about governance processes associated with the Moe railway revitalisation project and broader plans to reinvigorate the town’s centre.

The audit had previously only been discussed in the ‘closed to the public’ section of council meetings.

After gaining enough support from his fellow councillors to allow the matter to be debated in front of the public gallery on Monday night, Cr Darrell White moved a motion for the report to be “made available for public scrutiny”.

He was supported by crs Graeme Middlemiss, Christine Sindt and Kellie

O’ Callaghan, while crs Michael Rossiter and Dale Harriman opposed releasing the report to the community.

Crs Peter Gibbons, Sharon Gibson and Sandy Kam declared an interest in the matter and left council chambers for the vote.

The review found council had acted in accordance with the Local Government Act, but the inspectorate made recommendations for how council could better handle matters in future.
