AN interim charter to guide the new Federation University Australia through its initial months next year has been set out by the university.
This week FedUni also announced new members of its senior executive team, including current head of Monash Gippsland’s School of Business and Economics, Professor Terri Joiner, who will take one of four Faculty Executive Dean appointments.
Professor Joiner is the only Gippsland-based academic named among the new Deans, with the remaining three – Professor John Yearwood (Science), Professor Penny Paliadelis (Health) and Professor John McDonald (Education and Arts) – all from the University of Ballarat.
Professor Marcia Devlin will take up the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Quality) and Mr John Blair has been appointed Chief Operating Officer – both are also from UB.
The Express reported last week that long-time Gippsland academic Dr Harry Ballis would take up the position of Head of Gippsland campus.
In setting out the new charter, current UB Vice-Chancellor Professor David Battersby – who will oversee the new FedUni from 1 January – said it emphasised that “accessibility, inclusiveness and provision of a supportive learning and research environment are at the heart of our university”.
“We are a unique university because we are a federated network of campuses based in regional Victoria,” Professor Battersby said.
“Our priorities include increasing our student load by five per cent a year and strengthening our research profile to achieve world-class standards.
“We actively pursue partnerships to enhance access to our education and training, research and commercial activities.”
