The debate over the procurement policy and its impact on the Traralgon netball court project reached boiling point on Monday night, with mayor Sharon Gibson requesting Cr Kellie O’Callaghan leave council chambers.
Councillors were discussing Cr O’Callaghan’s motion for the resurfacing project to be exempt from some conditions of the new procurement policy.
Cr O’Callaghan interjected when Cr Gibson was speaking.
Cr Gibson issued two warnings to Cr O’Callaghan in quick succession, threatening to have her removed from the chamber.
Cr O’Callaghan then invited her to do so, at which point Cr Gibson asked her to leave. Cr O’Callaghan then refused to leave.
Cr Gibson called a five-minute adjournment of the meeting and the pair left the chamber to speak in private.
Upon their return, they appeared to have resolved the dispute and the meeting continued in an amicable manner.
