BOWLERS dominated the first day of the Neilson Builders Cup seventh round after weather through the week produced wickets that proved extremely tough to bat on.
Ex Students v Glengarry
THE reigning premier won the toss and sent Glengarry into bat, which paid dividends as the Magpies fell to 3 /12.
West Indian recruit Kurk Thomson was out for a duck, Sam Marks made one and Ryan Delaney departed for eight.
When Frank Marks was dismissed for 19 Glengarry was 4/35, and sank to lower depths when key batsman Ben Marks (8) was removed at 5/47.
The middle order dug deep and was rewarded as the wicket flattened out.
Ben Julin produced a gutsy top score of 66 and received support from Chris Johnson (26) and Tim Spotswood (25*) as Glengarry batted out the day to make 8/179.
Rob Voss was the star for the Sharks with 4/33 from 22 overs.
Toongabbie v Gormandale
GORMANDALE won the toss and made a surprise decision to bat first under trying conditions.
The move proved a disaster as the Tigers were bundled out for a paltry 102 in 38 overs.
Rob Darby top scored with 24, and things could have been worse if not for the last wicket partnership of Adam Brady (15) and Leigh Churchill (12*), which put on 30 runs.
Tom Shippen was superb taking 6/30 in a sensational spell of bowling with conditions to suit.
With 40 overs left in the day the Rams were poised for an upset before a shock capitulation saw them steamrolled for 55.
Stuart Anderson continued his superb form with 4/24, backed up by Shaun Barbour (2/19) and Adam Brady (3/8).
CATS v Imperials
CATS captain Barney Webber and Dan Nicholls made a flying start of 76 after being sent in before the latter went for 49.
Webber made 40 as CATS continued to pile on the runs in quick time, culminating in a total of 226 all out from just 58 overs.
Alex Butler was best with 3/21 for Imps, while Nick Scammell took 2/13 off 10 overs.
Imperials started the chase well and has 1/72 in reply.
Matt Ross 27* and Alex Butler 41* cruised to stumps unbeaten.
Centrals v Churchill
THE most thrilling contest of the day was dominated by the ball and Churchill and Centrals went toe to toe.
After being sent in Centrals only hung about for 37 overs and were all out for 77.
Ryan Ayers and Ryan Harvey each took three wickets in an emphatic performance.
It was a case of Groundhog Day for Churchill as the visitor sank to 9/51 with Centrals eyeing off an incredible heist.
An unbelievable last wicket stand between Paul Metlikovec (12*) and Ryan Harvey (14) weathered enormous pressure to score 29 and win first innings points by three runs.
The prolific Ben Kearns top scored with 25, while for Centrals Jarrod Allan was brilliant with 5/21, as was Corey Pollard (4/35).
Traralgon West v Rovers
ROVERS bowled first and dismissed Traralgon West for 118.
In Reply Rovers are 2/73.
