This month Bakers Delight is teaming up with the Breast Cancer Network Australia to deliver the Pink Bun campaign, with a Traralgon man one of two national ambassadors for the fundraising project.
Traralgon franchisee Matt Stephenson has been an active volunteer in the local community for a number of years and is a passionate advocate for breast cancer awareness.
Mr Stephenson said it is an honour to be supporting the cause in this way.
“It is phenomenal (to be an ambassador) because we get to have so many connections with the community,” Mr Stephenson said.
“You get to meet so many local sufferers being both women and their families, so to be able to help them is a real privilege.”
Having been personally effected by breast cancer, he said accepting the invitation to be involved in the campaign was a “no-brainer”.
“I have had friends that have suffered from breast cancer, some are continuing to fight that journey and others have unfortunately passed away,” he said.
“One-in-seven women in their lifetime will contract breast cancer, so that has been a big driver for me, as I hope to bring some much needed awareness to the problems these people face every day.”
As part of the campaign, Mr Stephenson is featured on posters across the country which he said was something he was not entirely comfortable with.
“I have had a lot of stick, with people poking at me and having a bit of fun here at the store,” he said.
“Overall though it is a massive honour, and if it means taking the mickey out of me to make some money to make a difference for the cause I am more than willing.”
He said there was three ways people can get involved with the cause.
“People can buy a six pack of buns for $7, they can make a donation or they can also buy a pink lady,” he said.
“Our goal is to be the number one store in Australia for raising funds, we want to do our best for the community and all those suffering from breast cancer.”
