NEARLY 50 of Melinda Monaghan’s mates showed their support for the Traralgon resident on Saturday, turning up to hang decorated underwear on the bridge in Victory Park to raise awareness of Small Cell Cervical Cancer.
The group, Mel’s Mates Mighty Mission, were going to send the knickers over to the United States for the second Panties on the Bridge event, according to Mel’s Mates’ Rae Riley.
“We can’t attend the actual event, but still want to help; so, we thought ‘why not do it here too, and then send the knickers over?” Ms Riley said.
“We will also auction off a couple of the pairs at the main event fundraising on 16 June; the money from the auction of the knickers will be sent to the SCCC research fund.”
Melinda Monaghan, 36, has an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer.
