Traralgon residents evacuated

SOME 34 residents of Traralgon near the overflowing Traralgon Creek have been evacuated as of 9.30am on Tuesday.

Those evacuated have been relocated to the relief centre at the Traralgon Performing Arts Centre while 13 have been accommodated locally.

According to the State Emergency Service, emergency alerts were sent at 2am and 4am to residents of 90 properties via 88 landlines and 292 mobile phones.

Emergency alerts have also been issued for Whittaker’s Road, Tennyson Street and Hyland Highway between Whittakers and Tennyson.

Also, George, Berry and Davidson streets, between Peterkin and Franklin streets, as well as the section of Franklin Street crossed by Traralgon Creek.

Residents in these areas have been advised to evacuate immediately.
