UPDATE: Two people have been flown to the Alfred Hospital after being freed from a car wreck on the Princes Highway at Flynns Creek this morning.
Emergency authorities spent much of the morning attempting to free a man in his twenties from the accident site, who has since been airlifted to Melbourne in critical condition with leg, pelvic, spinal and chest injuries.
A woman in her sixties, freed from the wreckage earlier in the day, sustained leg, pelvic and possible spinal injuries, was also flown to Melbourne in a serious but stable condition.
Police have advised the Princes Highway at Flynns Creek will be closed until approximately 4.00pm this afternoon, with road blocks in place near Minniedale Road east of Traralgon and the Rosedale roundabout.
Police, the Country Fire Authority, State Emergency Services and paramedics have been on the scene since the head-on collision was reported in a 9.27am call out.
A third person, a man in his 20s, has been taken to Latrobe Regional Hospital in a stable condition with leg and chest injuries.
Traffic is being diverted around the blocked stretch of highway.
