Man charged after dog fight

A 24 year-old Morwell man has been charged with assault following an altercation over a dog fight last week.

It was alleged the 24 year-old man assaulted a Morwell man in his early 70s, who repeatedly stabbed a pet dog to break up a fight between it and his daughter’s dog.

The victim was hospitalised with serious injuries to his face and body, and later transferred from Latrobe Regional Hospital to a Melbourne hospital.

The man was charged with intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury.

Any witnesses to the event have been asked to phone Latrobe Criminal Investigation Unit on 5131 5000.

Police pursuit in Traralgon

A male driver was arrested on Friday after leading  police on a pursuit in Traralgon. 

The pursuit, which began in the early hours of Friday morning, was called off soon after it began. 

The offending vehicle and driver were later found and arrested in Morwell. 

Victims of crime forum

Information about the services, rights and entitlements available to victims of crime will be presented to the Traralgon community this Wednesday as part of Victims of Crime Awareness Week.

Victims of crime, the people who work with and support them and the general community are all welcome to attend a forum to hear from local representatives of services including Victoria Police, the Gippsland Victims Assistance and Counselling Program and the Department of Justice. The department’s Victims Support Agency director Clare Morton will speak, along with victim advocate Noel McNamara, whose eldest daughter was murdered in 1992.

The forum will run from 9am to 2pm at Century Inn, 5 Airfield Road, Traralgon with morning tea and lunch provided.
