A second person has died following a head-on collision at Rosedale earlier this afternoon.
The crash involved two vehicles colliding head-on while travelling on the Princes Highway at Rosedale just before 2.30.
A child died at the scene and a woman in her 40s was also later pronounced dead after paramedics worked on her for some time on the roadside.
Police believe a car with a single occupant collided with another vehicle containing a man and a woman and three children.
Two men, one aged in his late 40s and one in his 20s have both been airlifted to The Alfred in a critical condition.
Two children aged 11 and 4 have been airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
The 11 year-old has life threatening injuries while the four-year-old has minor injuries.
