Interim CEO appointed

GippsTAFE chair John Mitchell will man the helm of Latrobe City while it searches for a replacement for outgoing chief executive Paul Buckley.

Council appointed Mr Mitchell as acting CEO at its meeting on Monday, which follows the recent resignation of Mr Buckley.

Mayor Sharon Gibson said Mr Mitchell would commence his appointment at 12.30pm on Tuesday, 24 December and would remain in the position until a permanent CEO was appointed.

“Mr Mitchell was the CEO with the City of Traralgon prior to amalgamation and the inaugural CEO of the then Shire of Latrobe,” Cr Gibson said.

“Subsequently he was the CEO of Gippsland Water and in recent times has been working as a consultant.

“As such he is no stranger to the role and will help council until a permanent CEO is appointed.”

Cr Gibson said council has commenced the process to recruit a permanent chief executive, which would be subject to a further report to council on 3 February.

“In the interim, council looks forward to working with Mr Mitchell in his acting capacity,” Cr Gibson said.
