TWO unoccupied homes have been deliberately lit over the weekend in Yallourn North and Newborough.
Latrobe Crime Investigations Unit Detective Senior Constable Robert Ormerod said the first fire occurred in Yallourn North at midnight on Friday.
Det Snr Ormerod said the home was completely destroyed, with an arson chemist deeming the fire as suspicious.
In a separate incident on Sunday about 11.30pm, another unoccupied home under renovation at Torres Street was set alight.
Det Snr Ormerod said the attempted arson was also suspicious and no one was home at the time.
He said neighbours heard young voices running away from the scene and responded, putting out the fire using buckets of water.
“CFA attended and made sure it was out, but neighbours did a very good job. There was very minor damage,” Det Snr Ormerod said.
Morwell police are appealing for witnesses or any information about the incidents.
