Thorpdale Bowling Club burgled

THIEVES forced doors open at Thorpdale Bowling Club, damaged property and stole cash at the weekend.

Club treasurer Shane Chambers said the alarm system was alerted about 4am Sunday.

Later in the morning members found two doors had been kicked in and a crow bar had been used to break the latch into a cash box.

Mr Chambers estimated about $500 in cash was taken but was more concerned about damage to the building.

He said all the notes were taken, but alcohol was left in the refrigerator and cartons of beer were left behind.

The incident is the fifth break-in in recent years; Mr Chambers recalled three thefts in 2009 and another late last year.

“It’s disappointing and not the best thing to be happening,” Mr Chambers said.

“It’s frustrating really.”

Baw Baw Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating the incident and enquiries are ongoing.
