Hazelwood coal mine operators will face court over alleged failures to maintain a safe workplace for employees and risks to public health during the 45-day mine fire in 2014.
Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court set a committal mention for 7 July for Hazelwood Power Corporation, owned by GDF SUEZ on Friday.
WorkSafe has charged the company with 10 alleged breaches of the Occupational Health and Safety Act on or about the 9 February 2014.
The charges include failing to provide a safe workplace without health risks under their management and control and exposing people other than its employees to health risks.
It comes after two State Government inquiries into the mine fire that shrouded Morwell in ash and smoke in February and March of 2014.
