A SEA of green swept through headspace Morwell on Tuesday when the youth mental health service provider celebrated national #headspaceday.
People of all ages celebrated headspace’s 10th year with food and music, in an effort to raise awareness about youth mental health.
headspace youth and community engagement officer Josh Cassidy said it was important to reduce the stigma of mental illness and promote the health and wellbeing of young people.
He thanked headspace’s youth reference group members for giving their time and helping to organise the day.
Youth reference group member Alle Wood said the community’s response had been great.
“It’s just trying to get the message out there that there are mental health services for young people,” Ms Wood said.
“And (we’re) trying to let them know they can access all of them and that they’re here if they do need them.”
Each year, about a quarter of Australian young people will experience mental health issues.
headspace has provided more than 1.5 million mental health care services for close to 260,000 young Australians in person, online or over the phone during the past decade.
Young people can visit the Morwell headspace centre at the corner of George Street and Hazelwood Road, Morwell during business hours or phone 5136 8300.
