The toy drive motors on

The Gippsland Motorcyclists Toy Run may be no more, but hundreds of toys will still be delivered to local children in need.

At the Latrobe Valley Christmas Toy Drive, organised by former GMTR coordinators Alf and Stella Vella, community members will gather at Old Gippstown for a family fun day.

There, residents will be able to personally deliver their toy donations to The Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul, while engaging in a range of activities and viewings of car and bike displays.

Santa Claus, a CFA fire truck and mascot Captain Koala are also scheduled to attend.

The toy run was cancelled by organisers in September due to the regulatory hurdles associated with running the drive.

Mr Vella encouraged the entire community to get behind the event and “swell Old Gippstown to capacity”.

“This is all for the kids… let’s all bring a toy to support the Salvos and St Vinnies,” he said.

The Latrobe Valley Christmas Toy Drive will take place on Saturday, 3 December at Old Gippstown from 10am to 2pm.

Entry is free; food and rides will incur a cost.
