Organisers of the Tanjil Valley Art Show are predicting a wonderful weekend of art and local talent this weekend with the launch of the show on Friday night.
Art show committee member Michael Dempsey said there were more than 350 entrants to the independent art show this year.
Judging of the pieces occurred on Tuesday and Mr Dempsey said he was excited to be able to announce the winners.
“I just love hearing the individual stories behind each piece,” he said.
Joan Bognuda, who is one of the art show judges, said the standard of talent at the show this year was impressive.
“The standard improves each year,” she said.
“There is creativity as well as technically-sound work and a lot of good pieces.”
Ms Bognuda said it was great to see people who could paint well, but who could also “put their own edge” on an artwork.
“The hardest thing is picking a winner,” she said.
“We came back to what was really depicting the area as well as technical skills.”
The official opening of the art will be on Friday, June 8 at the former Hill End Primary School on Paynter’s Road and admission is free at the opening.
The exhibition will also be open from 10am-4pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday for a gold coin donation.
