Mt Baw Baw pride weekend

The normally white slopes of Mt Baw Baw will be festooned with rainbows this weekend, for the inaugural Baw Baw Pride event.

Visitors can mingle with colourfully-clad drag queens, hear some live music and DJ sets, and take part in the very first Pride Ride down the slopes.

Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort marketing and events manager Sophie Kinerman said this was the first time they will run the event that will coincide with June Pride Month.

“At Baw Baw, we believe in an inclusive environment, we are a family friendly resort. It doesn’t matter who you love, anyone can ski, and we want to extend this welcome to a wider community,” Ms Kinerman said.

“This will be a special event that we hope to make an annual event. We want people to know this is a safe space for everyone to go skiing.”

The weekend of activities will kick off on Saturday with live music from Mel Pollard, with the Size Queens later wandering around.

Drags Aloud will put on a live show, followed up with DJ Craig Hemphill until late.

Ms Kinerman said guests can meet up on Sunday to get decked out in their favourite rainbow gear to take part in the Pride Ride.

“Everyone will ski with rainbow flags and we will take pictures and videos. We encourage everyone to join,” she said.

“We will theme the resort area with bunting, rainbow flags, piƱatas and unicorns. This is perfect timing, as we expect a lot of snowfall this weekend.”
