Horse lovers can brush the mud from their mount’s manes and don their Drizabones and gumboots to take part in the Ravens Park winter woollies horse show.
Ravens Park Riding Club is accepting entries from Horse Riding Clubs Association of Victoria members to compete in the official event at Traralgon.
Club secretary Janelle Cooper said the show would be a fun and relaxed event in which people would not have to worry too much about sprucing up their horses.
“Winter shows are laid-back and seem to be getting more popular than spring shows. This will be a casual event – there will be no pressure. You don’t have to plait-up your horse but you can if you want to,” Mr Cooper said.
The show circuit usually kicks off in spring when horses begin losing their winter fluff and look their best.
Ms Cooper said the newly-formed club ran a summer show in January but extreme heat kept numbers down. She hoped the cooler weather would entice more people.
She said the winter show would be held on an all-weather sand arena so it could go ahead even if it was raining.
The one-ring show will feature led, ridden and rider classes and riders can accrue points towards graduating up to higher levels.
Ms Cooper said there were about seven HRCAV clubs in the district and local shows could attract more than 100 competitors.
Ravens Park Riding Club formed in February last year, and now has 14 members with two more about to jump on board. Anyone over 16-years-old can join.
Ms Cooper said the club was in the midst of gaining access to the Traralgon Racecourse for its monthly rallies. She said proceeds of the winter show would go towards building club amenities.
The Ravens Park Riding Club HRCAV Official Winter Woolies Show will be held at the Traralgon Pony Club grounds on Minniedale Road on July 22.
