Art on show in men’s shed

Hundreds of artworks from local artists and the community are on show at the Newborough Men’s Shed to raise funds for art materials.

Men’s shed president Daryl Stevenson said the art sale had been going on for a while and they expected the Moe art group to move into the site anytime soon.

“There’s a couple of people running that at the moment and hopefully the Moe art group are going to move into there,” he said.

Men’s shed secretary Toby Wilkinson said the art pieces ranged between $10 and $50.

Mr Stevenson, who formed the men’s shed early this year, said they had submitted two applications for funding to upgrade the facility’s toilet and build a kitchen.

“Hopefully down the track we’ll have a drop-in centre as well where people can just come off the street and have coffee,” he said.

Mr Stevenson said the group had 15 financial members and met every Tuesday from 9am until two or three in the afternoon.

The shed is open to men aged 18 years and above.

Toby said there were two or three young people like him who were members of the men’s shed.

“I learned more at the men’s shed that in school. I never knew I could paint,” he said.

He said the group was also in need of manual handling tools and called on the community to donate their preloved gear.

The Newborough Men’s Shed is located on 41 Monash Road, Newborough.
