Moe shoting suspect arrested

A man will face court today after allegedly shooting a 36-year-old Yarragon man in the chest in Moe on Saturday.

The 45-year-old man was arrested on Sunday and charged by the Armed Crime Squad from Melbourne following the incident at Mena Street.

Police said the victim was taken to The Alfred hospital in a non-life threatening condition with injuries to his upper-right chest.

The accused was refused bail and remanded in custody on Sunday and is expected to be charged with assault and firearms offences.

An Alfred spokeswoman said the victim was admitted to hospital on Saturday night but was later discharged. He is expected to face the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court today.

Pedestrians targeted

Police caught 12 people using their phones while driving during an operation in Traralgon’s central business district on Thursday.

General duties police and members from Latrobe Highway Patrol carried out Operation Zebra for about four hours on the corner or Princes Highway and Franklin Street.

Thirty-four offences were recorded including 20 jaywalkers, 12 for using a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt and two drug drivers.

A one-hour operation was also undertaken at Post Office Place the same day.

The operation was part of a four-day crackdown on pedestrian safety, targeting people who failed to cross at an intersection on a green light or pedestrian crossing.
