The Express suspends Thursday print edition

Staff writers

The Latrobe Valley Express will suspend publication of our Thursday print edition after September 9.
To ensure the Valley’s largest team of  journalists continues to provide the most
comprehensive coverage of local news, information and events for our readers, during this time an expanded weekly printed edition of The Express with additional features will be published on Mondays.
More breaking and updated daily local news will also be published on The Express’ newly developed and enhanced website (www.latrobevalleyexpress.com.au), offering news alerts and free access to digital editions, as well as a tributes section (for the publication of death and funeral notices).
The economic malaise inflicted on most local businesses and events during COVID
lockdowns and restrictions, has severely curtailed advertising in The Express, the lifeblood of a free newspaper.
The significant cost of producing, printing and distributing more than 35,000 newspapers twice weekly cannot continue to be sustained during the commercial realities presented by the challenging times facing by us all.
The Express is the only free newspaper in regional Australia published twice a week, and one of only a few to be home delivered for free.
We thank our advertisers for their much valued ongoing support to help provide a
dedicated locally based independent news service to tell the stories of our community, and advocate for our region.
