LATROBE City recorded 40 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours up to midnight.
It has lifted the total of active cases in the municipality to 283, the highest of any local government area in regional Victoria.
Twenty are in the 3825 postcode (Moe/Newborough district), nine in both the 3840 postcode (Morwell district) and 3844 postcode (Traralgon district), one in 3842 (Churchill district) and one in the 3854 postcode (Glengarry district).
Victoria recorded 1750 new COVID-19 cases, with more than 14 per cent of them in regional Victoria.
“This is a significant increase over recent days,” COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said today.
In regional Victoria, people under the age of 19 made up about 38 per cent of cases.
“These are our children and our students who are clearly very active in the community,” he said.
Victoria recorded nine deaths in the 24 hours up to midnight.
The state has 23,164 active cases of COVID-19.
