YINNAR will play host to the ‘Yinnar Food Truck Festival’ on Sunday, February 13.

The new event was organised by Yinnar South community members Skye De Hommel and
Victor De Beer, who felt the community needed something positive to kick start the year.

They decided to bring an event to Yinnar that gives the community an opportunity to get
together and enjoy each other’s company all the while enjoying delicious food from a variety of vendors.

“It was born out of the fact that Yinnar and Yinnar South have faced some very significant
weather events over the last two years… the idea behind the event is to get people together,” said Mr De Beer.

“We are hoping to provide the community with different tastes, different textures, different
cultures that they probably wouldn’t be able to access locally.”

Between eight to 10 food trucks are currently expected at the festival, including ‘That
Charcoal Meat Guy’, ‘Dypsy Jypsy Soft Serve’, ‘Amazing Calamari’, ‘Twisted Spudz and Dogz’
and ‘Doin’ Dumplings’.

Entry to the event is free, with meals averaging $15 each.

Live entertainment will also be provided by local musicians.

“We’ve got three different bands that are coming, and we’ve also got a person who does
busking,” Mr De Beer said.

“We approached them, for the music industry it has been a really tough year.”

More than 3000 people have already shown interest in the event on Facebook, and Mr De
Beer said he and Ms De Hommel hope it will be a success and bring more visitors into Yinnar.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or some camping chairs to relax on
while they enjoy the food and music.

The festival is being held a Yinnar Recreation Reserve (88-144 Jumbuk Rd Yinnar), from 3pm until 8pm.
