The Nationals candidate for Narracan Shaun Gilchrist died last night.
The Nationals state director has written to the Victorian Electoral Commission to advise of the “tragic and unexpected death” of Mr Gilchrist.
“The Victorian Nationals express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr Gilchrist, and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time,” the party said in a statement.
“The Gilchrist family has asked for privacy and respect during their time of grief.”
The nature of Mr Gilchrist’s death is yet to be confirmed.
Both Liberal Leader Matt Guy and Nationals Leader Peter Walsh Leader paid their respects to the Warragul local.
“It is with great sadness that the Liberals and Nationals today acknowledge the passing of Mr Shaun Gilchrist,” they said in a joint statement.
“The Gilchrist family are in our thoughts and have asked for privacy and respect during their time of grief.”
