NATIVE timber logging in Victoria looks set to cease at the end of the year.

The Express understands the state government has brought forward the closure date to January 1, 2024, six years earlier than that originally announced.

It is also understood that a $200 million transition package for the industry will be announced in today’s Budget.

Timber workers were reportedly briefed this morning.

More to come.
