FLAMES engulfed the Churchill Pub early hours this morning.

Around 4.30am, a Churchill local heading into work nearby alleged they saw a black hatchback coming out near the pub and down Phillip Parade. Not long after, he started to see flames.

The local, who wishes to stay anonymous, told the Express that he is devastated as the establishment is one that the Churchill community cherishes.

Not long after the fire started, Churchill residents heard multiple explosions from the fire. The local described the explosions as ground-shaking.

Local firefighter, Matthew Fisher told the ABC: “The roof’s collapsed so we are putting water from the top”, while the blaze continued on Tuesday morning.

Police are urging that people stay clear of the area.

Police have been contacted for a comment.

Fire investigators will work to determine the fire’s cause.

More to come.
