IN yet another Gippsland League off-season coup Traralgon has announced that Brendan Fevola will line up for its Queen’s Birthday clash with rival Morwell, just days before the season start.
Fresh from a premiership with Yarrawonga in the Ovens and Murray Football League, Fevola returned to form last weekend.
“He kicked seven for Yarrawonga on the weekend so barring injury and suspension we should have a very good day on that day,” club president Andrew Quenault said.
Quenault is hoping for a grand final sized crowd when the Maroons return the favour to Morwell, who last year lured Brownlow medallist Jason Akermanis for the corresponding clash.
“I’m hoping it will be a tough task for Morwell. Last year Jason was very good for them and I know he did a lot of good things around the club and we are expecting the same out of Brendan this year,” he said.
Fevola will join former Carlton teammate and now Gippsland Power coach Nick Stevens in the Queen’s Birthday line up.
Stevens could play up to four games.
“It’s a change of approach from many country football clubs… it’s good exposure for both the club and the league,” Traralgon coach Paul McCulloch said.
