GIPPSLAND Bulls Hockey Club’s male teams took to the field in rainbow coloured socks this weekend in an ongoing show of support for the Fair Go, Sport! project, being celebrated by Hockey Victoria with a special round from 27 July to 4 August.
The project aims to increase awareness of sexual and gender diversity in hockey, and to encourage clubs to create a culture that is safe, welcoming and inclusive of all, both on and off the field.
The men’s Vic League team played out a close match with Melbourne High, finishing in a nil-all draw.
The Vic League Reserves, also up against Melbourne High, came away with a 2-nil win.
Mark Benfield and Chris Senini received Fair Go, Sport! medallions as best and fairest for Vic League and Reserves respectively.
The women’s teams will celebrate the round on Saturday at their home game in Churchill.
Last weekend, the women travelled to Bendigo to take on CV Blazers.
Natalie Goodfellow scored in her 100th game for the club, but it was not enough to get the reserves side across the line.
The Goodfellow fairytale did not eventuate as the CV Blazers took out the game 2-1.
The Vic League team played out a high quality match, but ran out of legs as the score blew out to 6-0.
Goalkeeper Sam Cummings worked hard all day and was superbly supported by her defensive unit, but the CV Blazers attack was relentless.
