Gippsland Tigers hosted Melton on Sunday in Superules football at Traralgon Recreation Reserve.
Melton got the jump on the Tigers in the first quarter and kicked away to a handy lead by quarter-time.
Some inspired rotations by Gippsland coach Danny Reid saw the Tigers claw their way back into the game with Tim Allan and Anthony Smith controlling play in the back line.
Shane Hollingsworth continued his season up forward giving the Tigers a reliable target.
The third quarter was evenly matched with both sides pushing hard to kick goals in the face of an impervious defence.
Wayne Hicks had plenty of possessions through the midfield for the Tigers as they searched to get back in the game.
An early goal in the last quarter to Danny Shaw gave the Tigers some hope but they were unable to stop a fitter Melton side who kicked away to record a comfortable win.
FINAL SCORE
Melton 15.10 (100) d Gippsland Tigers 9.9 (63)
