ROUND two of the Gippsland Cricket League on Sunday will see current ladder leader Traralgon make the trip to Meerlieu to battle a bullish Bairnsdale outfit.
Traralgon knocked off last year’s premiers Leongatha in round one and has Lee Stockdale in splendid form with bat and ball. Ben Julin and John Keighran also performed well and skipper Brad Knowles is clearly one of the best players in Gippsland.
Bairnsdale batted well against Sale Maffra in round one until play was abandoned.
Ray Stevens contributed a half century with good support from Mikael Hulme.
Bairnsdale’s wicket keeper batsman Hayden Erfurth is a key player but he will likely take his place in the Gippsland under 21 team which is also scheduled for action this weekend.
Central Gippsland will meet Leongatha at Yallourn North with both teams anxious to break the ice.
Central Gippsland, which did not play in round one, will have skipper Rhys Holdsworth available for this match.
Along with the experienced Craig Giddens, Kaushik Aphale and Aidan Vesty, the batting looks very capable.
Internationals Riyaz Pathan and South African twins Schalk and Henk Conradie have also been selected and could prove the wildcards.
